The grip consists of anvils mounted on shafts carried on ball bearings that allowthem to rotate. The lower grip is driven by a small electric motor (adjustablespeed between 0 and 20 RPM) while the upper grip is mounted to the load celland is free to rotate. Sample rotation while under load allows the stress in thesample to equalize at all points.
