Eccentric Roller Grip, 1 kN (200 lbf) capacity. A sample is held between the body and the eccentrically mounted roller. As the load increases the gripping action becomes self-tightening due to cam action between the roller and the body.
Motorized Grip, 10 kN (2000 lbf). Tests loop samples such as “O” Rings, rubber bands and strips cut from cylindrical items, 10 kN (2000 lbf) capacity. The grip consists of anvils mounted on shafts carried on ball bearings that allow them to rotate. The lower grip is driven by a small electric motor (adjustable speed between 0 and 20 RPM) while the upper grip is mounted to the load cell and is free to rotate. The sample is placed over both anvils and rotated by the electric motor while a tensile load is applied by the testing machine. In this way stress in the sample is equalized through its length.
Bollard-type Grip, 2 kN (300 lbf). They are ideal for testing thin flexible samples of plastic film, paper and foils. The bollard has a 12 mm (0.5 in) diameter. The bollard pivot point is offset from the axis of loading, causing the tension on the sample to clamp the end between the bollard and the body. The sample must be flexible enough to wrap around the bollard.
